Local bowlers play in Chicago tourney

Friday, July 10, 2015

This weekend 3G Bowl is taking 24 youth bowlers to compete in the national USBC Youth Bowling Championships, a two-day tournament in Orland Park, Ill.

The bowlers range from ages 6-19 and consist of 23 local players at the 3G bowling alley as well as one high school bowler from Frankfort.

Friday, the 24 youth league players were bowling in six games, including singles and doubles. Saturday the players will bowl in three games for the team event.

Four members are bowling only in the scratch events while the other 20 are bowling both handicap and scratch.

The team is coached by owners Michael and Tiffany Friars, Coy Dickey and committee members Cory Gibbons from Frankfort and Lindsay Dickey.

Last year, the youth team organized a trip to Buffalo, N.Y. for 10 bowlers and with the increase in participants this year, Coach Tiffany Friars hopes to double the number of youth bowlers for next year's tournament in Indianapolis.
