Duane Thomas 'Doodle' Burk

Duane Thomas "Doodle" Burk, 87, of Greencastle, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2015.

Born April 14, 1928 in Putnam County, he was the son of James Arthur and Serena (Thomas) Burk.

He was a 1946 graduate of Clinton Center.

He married Mary M. (Kellams) Burk on April 12, 1957, and she survives.

Duane was a United States Army veteran, having served in the Korean War, where he was wounded in action.

Doodle was a carpenter; he had also owned and operated Burk's Market in Bainbridge, and drove a school bus for Bainbridge Schools for several years.

He had previously owned the LP Gas Company and the Marathon Station in Bainbridge.

He was a 61-year member and received his 50-year past Master Award on Aug. 25, 2014, of the Morton Masonic Lodge; a 50-year member of the Royal Arch Masons, Greencastle; member of the Carpenter's Union; lifetime member of the VFW; and active many years with the Bainbridge Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Burk; son Jeffrey D. Burk; daughter Jennifer (Steve) Walters, brother Malcolm Burk; four grandchildren Keagan Burk, Deyton Burk, Michael Walters and Katie Walters; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jay Michael Burk; a brother, John Burk; and a sister, Ida Mae Baird.

A Masonic memorial service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 24, followed by memorial services at 2 p.m. at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral home.
