County Jail

Five people were placed into the custody of the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 12:50 a.m. Saturday, Joe Lewis Hunt, 63, Indianapolis, was arrested for operating while intoxicated.

* At 4:24 a.m. Saturday, Dennis Leroy Rivers, 46, Bainbridge, was arrested for operating while intoxicated.

* At 11:42 a.m. Saturday, Jeramy Steven Sheldon, 37, Greencastle, was arrested for operating while intoxicated.

* At 1:34 a.m. Sunday, Tony D. Starr, 32, Reelsville, was arrested for operating while intoxicated.

* At 11:52 p.m. Sunday, Dustin Arnold, 20, Spencer, was arrested for a probation violation.

City Police

Three recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

* At 7:17 p.m. Monday, Ashley Karish, 32, Greencastle, was stopped at Apple and Illinois streets in the city's South End by Officer Kyle Lee.

Arrested for possession of marijuana and possession of two syringes, Karish was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

* At 2:18 p.m. Monday, Kristopher Hardy, 32, Greencastle, was arrested at the Putnam County Courthouse by Officer Nick Eastham.

Arrested on a warrant for failure to appear, Hardy was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

* At 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Teddy Kennedy, 24, Quincy, was arrested at Castlebury Apartments by Officer Ed Wilson.

Arrested on an Owen County warrant for theft, burglary and receiving stolen property, Kennedy was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

In another incident, John Johnson Jr., 35, Brazil, was stopped by Officer Matt Huffman on Bloomington Street at 4:05 a.m. Saturday.

Johnson was issued a summons for possession of marijuana.

Meanwhile, two recent accidents were investigated by city officers.

* At 8:35 p.m. Sunday, a 55-year-old Greencastle woman was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated with a prior offense after a parking mishap in the Kroger lot off Indianapolis Road.

Candace Benson was arrested after she pulled into the lot and made too wide of a turn, allowing her 2000 Toyota Sienna to strike a parked, unoccupied 1998 Mitsubishi Mirage owned by Paige Garza, Greencastle.

Sgt. Charles Inman said Benson then put her van in reverse to reposition her vehicle and struck the Garza vehicle a second time.

After Benson reportedly backed up and repositioned the van a third time, she exited the vehicle and went inside Kroger. Witnesses, however, waited outside for Garza to return to her vehicle to tell her what happened so she could notify police.

* At 7:20 p.m. Friday, a two-vehicle accident was reported on Indianapolis Road near Franklin Street.

Officer Huffman reported the Brenda Williamson, 57, Cloverdale, was stopped in traffic in a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado when her vehicle was struck from behind by a 1997 Ford F-350 driven by Dylan Phillips, 20, Bainbridge.

Phillips said he braked but his truck slid on the wet pavement in front of the Kroger store and a collision resulted.

Total damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

Sheriff's Department

The Putnam County Sheriff's Department investigated one property-damage accident recently.

* At 2:22 a.m. Monday, Jacob R. Cox, 26, Dunlap, Tenn., was westbound on Interstate 70, just east of the 49-mile marker, in a 2009 Dodge Ram.

Cox advised Deputy Stevie Smith he saw a deer and braked to avoid it, but could not. He struck the deer with the front end of the vehicle, causing damage to the head light, bumper and other components.

Damage listed as $2,501-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department assisted with two medical runs and several other dispatches recently.

* At 2:32 a.m. Friday, GFD investigated a fire alarm at 625 E. Washington St. The cause was an alarm system issue.

* At 3:59 a.m. Friday, GFD assisted the Cloverdale Fire Department with a garage fire at 402 S. Grant St. in Cloverdale. The department helped with extinguishment, salvage and overhaul.

* At 3:06 p.m. Friday, GFD investigated a fire alarm at 626 E. Seminary St. The department located no issue in the vacant dorm room. The department was called back to the same address later and it was requested the alarm be reset.

* At 7:24 p.m. Friday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident in front of Kroger.

* At 8:14 p.m. Sunday, GFD investigated a fire alarm at 208 E. Olive St. The alarm was due to steam from a shower.

* At 2:29 p.m. Monday, GFD assisted with clean-up after a vehicle accident at the entrance of the 4-H Fairgrounds.

* At 9:03 p.m. Monday, GFD cleared a tree from the roadway on Manhattan Road, south of Limedale.
