CLOVERDALE -- While serving a Boone County warrant Thursday afternoon, local police apprehended a serious violent felon in possession of more than a pound of methamphetamine.

Douglas M. Veach, 42, Brazil, was wanted for a parole violation in Boone County. And it was discovered through a Putnam County Sheriff's Department investigation that Veach was in Putnam County.

He was observed at the Cloverdale Holiday Inn Express and taken into custody there without incident.

Veach was discovered with more than one pound of methamphetamine, a handgun, an unknown amount of U.S. currency and drug paraphernalia.

Those taking part in the investigation and arrest included PCSD Lt. Doug Nally and Lt. Dwight Simmons (with K-9 officer Bo), the Clay County Sheriff's Department and the Boone-Hamilton Drug Task Force.

Both Nally and Sheriff Scott Stockton credited the cooperative effort of the agencies and an emphasis on networking for the effectiveness of the investigation.

Veach was booked into the Putnam County Jail at 3 p.m. Thursday for possession of a firearm, possession of handgun without a permit and on the Boone County warrant.

Drug charges have not been filed, as federal assistance in the case may be forthcoming.

Nally has initiated contact with the FBI, which showed interest in adopting the matter as a federal case.

Given his past, Veach could be in for serious prison time if found guilty on any of the current or pending charges.

The parole violation springs from a 2010 Marion County Conviction for Class B felony armed robbery with injury, for which he received a 10-year sentence with the Indiana Department of Correction.

It is unclear from an online DOC offender search how much time Veach served.

He concurrently served three-year sentence for a related Class D felony conviction of theft and receiving stolen property.

Veach's record also includes a 2008 conviction for Class C felony attempted robbery in Marion County.

He also had a pending plea agreement in Hendricks County stemming from a July 2014 arrest on drug and gun charges.

Veach also has a number of prior misdemeanor charges.

  • The good- the police did a great job getting this miscreant off the street and his evil dope out of circulation. The bad- even if the feds get him, he will lawyer up and probably never tell where he got the dope. Unless it was fronted to him and he still owes for it. I would imagine a pound or so of meth is worth someone's life. Prisoners have been killed for a lot less. The ugly- for every guy like this that gets caught there are many more that are willing to take the risk to make some fast cash. He may have been ready to deliver to someone here in Putnam County. I hope that the desperate addicts that were waiting on their fix don't break into your car/house/boat/truck/barn/shed to take your stuff to sell to buy their dope from a more expensive source.
