Greencastle Farmers' Market SNAPs into savings

Tuesday, August 11, 2015

The Farmers' Market has a new plan in store for its customers.

The Friends of the Greencastle Farmers' Market will offer residents receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (SNAP) a free, $1 token (also know as Bonus Bucks) for every $2 worth of SNAP tokens purchased at the market with a Hoosier Works Card.

For each August market day, SNAP customers can receive up to $5 in free Bonus Bucks tokens. The tokens can then be used at the market to purchase fresh, locally-grown fruits and vegetables.

The Bonus Bucks program, funded by local donations, is intended to help stretch family food and encourage healthy eating.

How it works

Come to the Welcome Tent on N. Indiana Street near Washington Street

Use your Hoosier Works SNAP/EBT card to purchase $1 tokens, which can be used to buy eligible food items from market vendors

Get $1 Bonus Buck for every $2 SNAP purchase -- up to a maximum of $5 per customer at each market

Bonus Bucks can be used to buy fresh local fruits and vegetables

Tokens do not expire, so use them the next time you come to the market

The Greencastle Farmers' Market is located "downtown on the square" while being open from 8 a.m. until noon every Saturday.
