Greencastle's volleyball team was in action against Tri-West Monday on the newly-painted McAnally floor. Greencastle followed a loss in the first game with an effort-filled second game to win. But the Lady Bruins held GHS at bay and won the match 3-1.

Greencastle is working with a volleyball team that hasn't had a lot of time playing together. Four seniors graduated which left certain holes that needed to be filled. GHS coach Maggie Walters said that the focus early in the season for the team ball control.

"We have a lot of defensive players," Walters said. "That's the biggest part of the game. If they can keep the ball off the ground then they are going to be able to win games."

GHS fell in the first game 25-16, however it was not for a lack of trying. The Tiger Cubs were steadily sacrificing their bodies as they dove to the ground defending against the tough attacks of Tri-West.

The Lady Bruins were equipped with a 6-6 middle hitter who gave Tri-West a big advantage.

"It's a lot of hitter placement and being smart," Walters said. "What's open on the court. (Monday) we just couldn't find the open spots. So it's not about big kills it's about placement kills."

The Lady Tiger Cubs were able to claim the second game 25-20 however. Greencastle's next match will be at Crawfordsville Thursday.

Senior Allison White led the team with eight kills while, junior Madison Trout earned 20 digs.
