William Glenn 'Bill' Beams Sr.

William Glenn "Bill" Beams Sr., 89, of Greencastle, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015.

He was born on Sept. 14, 1925 in Putnam County to Russell and Mary Beams.

Bill was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army.

He had been employed by Coca-Cola as a truck driver, and retired from Schwerman Trucking.

Bill was a lifelong member of the VFW, and was a member of Moose Lodge 1592.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six siblings, Lovica Varvel, Florence Murphy, Rosie Hall, Lavern Parrish, Chester Beams and Russel Beams; two stepsons, Bill Burnham and Joe K. Blacketer; a grandson, Thomas G. Beams; and a great-granddaughter, Meagan Games.

Surviving are his wife of 20 years, Dorothy; two children, Bud Beams and wife Vicky, and Diana L. Hood; a brother, Richard Beams and wife Mary Ellen, Georgia Craig and Patty Turner and husband Ron; four stepchildren, Darla, Shirley, Sharon and Debbie; four grandchildren, Leslie Bumgardner and husband Carlos, Glen Campbell and wife Stephanie, Monica Kendall and husband Jesse, and Cindy Parker and husband Chuck; 12 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and several stepgrandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24 at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Chaplain Ron Turner officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Monday, Aug. 24 from 11 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1592 will have a Moose Walk-Thru ceremony at 12:45 p.m.
