Greencastle schools increase security Tuesday

Tuesday, August 25, 2015

Greencastle Community School Corporation sent an email to parents Tuesday afternoon to inform them of extra security measures put in place.

Superintendent Dawn Puckett noted in the message the security measures are in reference to a warrant for the arrest of "a young man in our district."

"Our safety plan is fully implemented and additional safety measures and heightened awareness are in place at all buildings. We would like to thank the Greencastle City Police Department for their partnership and presence today as we continue to work diligently to assure the safety of our students," Puckett said.

She noted additional safety measures will continue until the suspect is apprehended.

The only known warrant at this time was issued Friday for 18-year-old Shea Tahtinen, who is being sought on charges of criminal mischief and possession of child pornography.

Tahtinen was initially questioned in reference to a series of anti-religious graffiti on three southside churches in Greencastle.

  • Was there a specific threat against the schools?

  • No, just under aged children.

  • Yeah, a jerk kneed, paranoid reaction to something that has nothing to do with any school, if related to the arrest warrant of a fool who spray painted church sign's and possession of pornography. This is even worse than the time when some young man took a short cut through school grounds on his way to work each day, and the school flipped out !! His picture was circulated for being a dozen feet on "unposted" lawn ! Does someone sit around and think of ways to rile things up when ever a situation can be rigged and connected to ?? Better get lightening rods, ya never know, cause it could unlikely happen. Better safe, than smarter, lets upset people up and make them afraid.

  • I think the school was acting on the side of caution and I think it was a good decision. I don't want to see a local school headlined on the nightly news.
