BRAZIL -- The Brazil Concert Band will present "Grand Finale 2015" Sunday, Aug. 30 at 7:30 p.m.

The show takes place at the bandshell in Forest Park; if rain, the concert will be in the pavilion.

Director Matthew S. Huber has chosen a play list of band favorites ranging from Gustav Holst to John Philip Sousa.

Holst, (1874-1934), lived in England and composed "First Suite in E Flat for Military Band" in 1909. Two years later, he wrote "Second Suite in F for Military Band." Both works became staples throughout the world for concert bands.

America's Henry Fillmore (1881-1956) of Cincinnati wrote more than 1,000 works for band. He transcribed several European classics written for orchestras to be performed in concert bands.

The BCB will play his "Light Cavalry Overture," which Fillmore published in 1922 from the original by Austrian composer Franz von Suppe.

Music from Broadway and Hollywood are always favorites with the BCB and its audience. Offered are "The Wizard of Oz" arranged by James Barnes, "Selections From Chicago" arranged by Ted Ricketts and "Star Wars Medley" arranged by John Tagenhorst.

The BCB will present "In Memoriam Amantem," a religious medley by Norman Hanson, trombonist with the Brazil Concert Band.

Sousa (1854-1932) led the U.S. Marine Band from 1880 to 1892 before starting his own traveling ensemble, Sousa and His Band, which crisscrossed the nation and the globe for the next 39 years.

During World War I, Sousa suspended operations of his band for the duration of the war and was in charge of organizing bands for the U.S. Navy ending the war as a Lt. Commander. His "Solid Men to the Front" will march forth along with "The Untitled March," "Fugue On Yankee Doodle," "New York Hippodrome" and the National March, "Stars and Stripes Forever."

The Brazil Concert Band's annual Fall Concert will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22 at the First Baptist Church on East Poplar Street in Terre Haute.
