Down to the Nitty-Gritty

Monday, August 31, 2015
Wabash Valley Asphalt started tearing out West Liberty Street from Jackson to Madison Street Monday morning. Joe Burdick (left) and Daniel Walters dug out the dirt around the manhole at the intersection of Liberty and Market streets after Richard King used the back hoe to dig out the concrete. Liberty Street is among several city-wide road construction projects, but is expected to need the most work. Burdick said the road is being ground down to dirt, then a layer of felt and concrete will be put in place before the road is built back up. The project will continue to Gillespie Street, with work possibly continuing through Thursday, Mayor Sue Murray said last week. The road is currently closed to traffic.
