Mary Charlotte Huestis

Mary Charlotte Huestis, born in Lyman, Harrison County, Miss., on May 2, 1921, passed away on Monday, Aug. 31, 2015.

She attended Spring Hill Academy in Mobile, Ala., and studied nursing.

She was married in 1941 to James C. Huestis Sr., who preceded her in death.

She moved to Greencastle during World War II, and worked at Mallory's, DePauw University and Putnam County Hospital.

She was a member of the Red Hat Society, Putnam County Historical Society and attended St. Paul's the Apostle Catholic Church.

She was always the eternal optimist. She was a devout Catholic and had a never-ending faith in God.

She loved music, especially jazz, going to concerts and plays at Greencastle High School, DePauw and the Putnam County Playhouse.

She loved flowers and trees. She encouraged and taught her children to love these things and to appreciate many other things in life. She had a fierce spirit, a wonderful sense of humor and the highest level of integrity and personal sense of honor, duty and responsibility. She is deeply loved by all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her children, James, Paul and Mary Catherine; her parents, Mary Caroline and Morris L. Seymour; and her brothers, John (Jack), Morris (M.L.) and Eugene.

She is survived by her sons, Michael, Donald, Christopher, Kevin, Philip with his wife Cathy, and her daughter Cecelia Huestis-Beshai and also her daughter-in- law Janet Huestis, wife of Paul Huestis; her grandchildren, Natalie Huestis with her husband Jason, Ryan Huestis, Lauren Huestis, Eric Huestis with his wife Patricia, Matthew Huestis, Maia Beshai, Daniel Beshai, Isaac Huestis and Miriam Huestis; and her great-grandchildren, Sebastian and Zoe, Anna, D. J. and Autumn.

Heaven has gotten brighter now that she is there. She is "just resting her eyes."

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5 at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle, with interment to follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4 at the funeral home.
