Wednesday, September 2, 2015

Another season of weekly jazz shows will kick off Thursday at the Fluttering Duck with the first session of Jazz at the Duck from 8:30-10:30 p.m.

This fall's series will run most Thursdays from Sept. 3 through July 10.

Updates on the concerts will be made throughout the fall, but for now the September dates have been set.

The Steve Snyder Trio will kick things off this Thursday, featuring Jazz at the Duck organizer and DePauw University professor Steve Snyder on piano, as well as gust DePauw student musicians with Jesse Whitman and Kenny Phelps.

Thursday, Sept. 10 will be the first bi-weekly jam session, featuring Veronica Pejril on keyboards, Bill Hamm on bass and Rick Provine on drums.

On Thursday, Sept. 17, Jazz at the Duck will welcome The Men of Note and Kandance. The group will perform a variety of swing and big band tunes, mostly drawn from the tradition of the Great American Song Book and jazz standards by Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington and Count Basie.

The Men of Note and Kandance also play from original arrangements done by Bill Fulwiler specifically for the group.

The band features vocalist Kandance Brown, Dalvin Boone and Steve Steppe on trumpets,

Matthew Balensuela on reeds, Norm Hanson on trombone, David Gibbs on piano, Mark Ford and Kevin Reberger on bass and drummer Jim Thistle.

September will wind down with the season's second jam session on Thursday, Sept. 24, this session featuring Snyder (keys), Hamm (bass) and Provine (drums).

Jazz at the Duck is sponsored by The Fluttering Duck, The Inn at DePauw, The DePauw University School of Music, DePauw Artsfest 2015, The Depauw University Public Occasions Committee and The DePauw Office of Facilities Management.

The concert series runs from 8:30-10:30 p.m. most Thursdays that DePauw University is in session.
