ELLETTSVILLE -- Cloverdale's football team took another big loss Friday when they traveled to Edgewood. Though the Clovers lost 49-6, coach Tony Meyer is pleased with his team's performance as they continue into the season.

"We moved the ball. We had two running backs that really busted their backside. Garry Spencer and Noah Duby just kept their heads down and ran the ball. That was great."

Meyer was thrilled to se his young quarterback Parker Watts show some confidence and put on a good display to earn CHS some points.

He was also happy to see the Clover discipline improving and resulting in fewer flags.

"Parker Watts had a good day," Meyer said. "He had a 72-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Kaeft. We reduced the number of penalties by two-hundred percent."

Another thing that has Meyer excited was his defense, which never gave into the tough conditions or the Mustangs.

"The defense battled. I don't know how (defensive coordinator) coach (David) Zorman does it. Most of his starters are gone. He's pretty much playing with the second team and they fought the whole time."

Meyer is happy with his players for giving it all on the field and is looking forward to the future with optimistic eyes.

"Our kids fought the whole time," he said. "They battled. It was hot and balmy. There was no breeze. We had some kids that gave a lot. It was incredibly promising and we had a great fan attendance."
