Jackie Arnold "Jack" Scanland, 67, of Greencastle passed away on Monday, Sept. 7, 2015 surrounded by his loving family.

Jack was born on Nov. 4, 1947 in Indianapolis to John Arch Scanland and Ruth Matlock Scanland.

He was a graduate of Ben Davis High School.

Jack served his country in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Vietnam War from 1967-1969.

He was the former owner and operator of the former JA Scanland Trash Service, now known as Jack's Trash Service, a business that his son proudly owns and operates.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jerry Scanland; and a niece, Sarah Fleming.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Carol; four children, Tammy Barger and husband Duane, Sheila Shoemaker and husband John, Dawn Thomas and husband Mike, and Jack Scanland II and wife Joetta; seven grandchildren, Robert Thomas, Cole Stevens, Hope Scanland, Dillon Shoemaker, Kasey Thomas, Jackie "Trey" Scanland III and Madison Shoemaker; and his deeply anticipated great-grandchild; three sisters, Sylvia Taylor, Helen Wehmeier and Betty Fleming; and several nieces and nephews.

Jack was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11 at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, with Pastor Matt Nichols, and Jeff McMillan officiating.

Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, Sept. 10 from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
