Brickmania Jolly Roger park program approaching

Monday, September 14, 2015

In preparation for "International Talk Like a Pirate Day," youngsters are invited to join the Greencastle Parks and Recreation Department for a special Brickmania event straight from the ship's galley.

Who's Jolly Roger? Want a clue? He's one of the unluckiest pirates sailing the high seas. Each of our young shipmates will begin with a special treasure map, which will lead them to the treasure chest.

The Park Department has searched all seven seas and dug up 12 retired Lego Pirates kits called the "Shipwreck Defense" which retailed at $12.99 each. The kits include two mini-figures, a cannon, and some unique and hard-to-find pieces.

Twelve lucky shipmates will be able to participate in a treasure hunt, chances to view special Lego displays and dioramas, the opportunity to free-build with the department's collection of building blocks piled high on the floor, as well as cookies and drink.

"Build Your Own" mini-figures, as well as left-over projects from past Brickmania events will be available for sale with a portion of the proceeds used to replenish the park's Lego.

This treasure hunt will be Thursday night, Sept. 17 from 6:30-8 p.m. in Greencastle City Hall and is open to the first 12 pirates with paid $10 registration.

Tuesday, Sept. 15 is the registration deadline and is open to the first 12 registrants with paid registration. Registration forms are available at Greencastle City Hall, 1 N. Locust St.

For more information, persons may contact Rod Weinschenk, director of Parks and Recreation, at 653-3395.
