Clovers win in straight sets

CLOVERDALE -- The Lady Clovers picked up a big win Thursday against the visiting Bulldogs from Monrovia.

Three straight sets were all that were needed for the varsity (25-15, 25-10 and 25-23) while the junior varsity wrapped up its match in two (25-21, 25-23).

Clover head coach Kathy Moore was thrilled to pick up the win Thursday.

"I thought we played well tonight," coach Moore said. "Our defense really went to work tonight and it paid off."

Cloverdale's scoring was led by Christyn Willis, who contributed 14 points and three aces on the night. Savannah Jones racked up 12 points and five aces while Lindsey Davis added seven points. Hannah Ehmen picked up five points and two aces, Kimmy Winders threw in three points and an ace, Lauren Meek added two points and Tori Combs added one.

Offensively, Davis had six kills while Combs (5), Winders (3), Willis (2) and Harley Manion contributed. Jones had a total of 14 set assists on the night.

Defensively, Combs had three blocks and Davis, Manion and Winders added one apiece. Digs were contributed by Winders (19), Ehmen (9), Jones (9), Davis (8), Willis (5), Meek (5), Combs (3), Justyce Monnett and Manion.

With other events happening this weekend at Cloverdale High School, coach Moore is happy to add to the excitement.

"It's homecoming week and this was a nice win for us with everything going on," Moore said.

The Lady Clovers return to action Thursday, Sept. 24 when they travel to North Putnam High School at 7 p.m.
