BRAZIL -- The IHSAA girls' golf sectionals were a little wetter than anticipated and three county schools took part in the Northview sectional with North Putnam golfing in Crawfordsville.

Official IHSAA scores were delayed until Sunday and show Greencastle earning fifth with 387 and 392 for Cloverdale at sixth-place.

Terre Haute North earned first place with 331. South Putnam's two golfers Alicia Haywood and Kristi Wood shot a 109 and 146.

North Putnam earned sixth place in the Crawfordsville sectional.

The low scorers for the Tiger Cubs were Lokysa Scheuermann, Macey Masten and Alex Weliever all shooting a 96. Bridewater shot a 104 and Alexa Newlin shot 114.

"Lindsey had an up and down day she played very well at times and then would have trouble with a hole or two," GHS coach Bob Hedge said. "Alexa had a good senior year but probably would have liked to have played better in her last high school match."

Cloverdale was without Abbie Speas and Abby Walker shot a 97 for the lowest CHS score. Grace Rightmyer, Ambrie Kidder and Lillian Boyd shot a 119, 128 and 140 respectively.

"It was a good experience for all of our girls," Clover coach Matt Langdon said. "Abby Walker went out and had a great day. She shot a 97 and missed moving on by just two strokes. It's great to see her that close as a sophomore. With no seniors this year we can really look forward to improving this summer and reaching new heights next year."

North Putnam's Taylor Dixon was the lowest Cougar with 118, followed by Emily Eltz who shot a 121.

NPHS coach Linda Patrick said her team anticipated fast greens and needed to handle fast rolls on the fairways.

"The focus of their practices during the week was all about choosing the right clubs and getting a softer touch on their shots closer to the green so they could stay on the green and get good putts," Patrick said.

Anna Carrington carded a 147 and Mary Timm a 150.

Patrick said that the weather adjustments were an obstacle for her Cougars as the younger golfers were just learning about playing with a strategy in mind.

"Overall, Anna and Mary played good and now have a glimpse at the competitiveness at sectionals. This will be something they will remember for next season and come back next year to beat their score."
