CAYUGA -- The North Putnam cross country team took part in an invitational Tuesday at North Vermillion High School, setting several personal records in the process.

Fellow Western Indiana Conference member South Vermillion also took part in the events on Tuesday. Other teams in attendance were from Attica, Covington Fountain Central, Notre Dame de la Salette, Seeger, Bismarck-Henning, Oakwood, Riverton Parke, Rockville and Schlarman high schools.

North Putnam's Caleb Duncan bested his previous personal record by placing ninth overall in a field of 63 competitors with a time of 18:47.

"He ran his smartest race to date," head cross country coach Kevin Lutes said. "I'm very impressed with his progress.

"The girls put a lot of effort into their racing, as well."

Alanna Nunez led the Lady Cougars by placing 15th overall with a time of 25:20. Gabby Carney followed in 26th place with a time of 26:25 while Sydney Sims rounded out the harriers, taking 27th overall with a time of 28:54.

Cougar cross country picks up the pace again this Saturday when it travels south to the Greencastle Invitational. The race is expected to run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
