The Lady Tiger Cub soccer team pounced on Monrovia after a slow start Monday. Amelia Smith was involved in all three as Greencastle earned the 3-0 win.

GHS will be playing for the newly aligned WIC title Saturday when it takes on Cascade at home.

GHS coach Angie Weeks said the team played focused but didn't get around to its best soccer until late in the first half.

With the score nil-nil, it was a corner kick from Katie Rose Parsons that team captain Smith kicked in for the first score of the night.

"We played with some intensity that waited to show up until the second half," Weeks said. "I'm glad they brought it here tonight. We are getting geared up to play Edgewood Thursday."

Weeks said the team is looking to stay at the top of its game as the season draws to a close. The Tiger Cubs recently earned the top spot in the WIC's west division and will be playing in the WIC crossover game Saturday against Cascade at home.

Weeks also said that while at times the Lady Tiger Cubs have a slow start, it's not too concerning, saying sometimes the players just have to feel the other team out before it starts to really click.

"The second half offered a much more controlled midfield by the Tiger Cubs," Weeks said. "Although numerous offside calls were caught against Greencastle, the team was able to secure two more goals from Amelia Smith and Bailey Lausee assisted by Amelia Smith."

The second goal came when Smith took control of the ball and dribbled it toward the goal. She then took the shot from 20 yards and nailed it.

The second shot came shortly after and took the wind out of Monrovia's sails when the pass from Smith was timed perfectly by Lausee for the final score.
