Education Combats Poverty

Friday, September 25, 2015
Cascade Engineering Director of Talent Management David Barrett (above) gave a presentation during the Transformers fourth annual education seminar this week. His focus during the Poverty Awareness Week presentation was providing possibilities to everyone. One of the topics he discussed was Cascade Engineering's "Welfare to Career" program, which made its debut in 1997. He said after trying -- and failing -- several times, the program finally began to serve its purpose in the last eight years. (Banner Graphic/Sabrina Westfall)

Greencastle and Cloverdale McDonald's franchise owner Bob Jedele (right) put a local spin on the presentation. He explained policies put in place to help those who were working at the establishment as a first job or returning to the workforce in the fast food industry. He noted due to the nature of the work, some of the issues associated with poverty would show up in the workplace, which must be taken into consideration.
