Ray Wesley Poynter, 60, of Greencastle, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2015.

Born July 28, 1955 in Greencastle, he was the son of Elbert Wesley and Era Grace (Burton) Poynter .

He was a graduate of North Putnam High School.

He married Debra (Ridgway) Poynter on June 30, 1973, and she survives.

Ray was a farmer; he loved the spring planting and fall harvest seasons. He had a passion to do things right or not do them at all. He loved the land God gave us and loved living the dream of being blessed, having a wonderful family and being a farmer. He loved his family, neighbors, friends, and those that worked with him, they were all family.

He was a member of the Putnam County Farm Bureau, National Corn and Soybean Grower Associations and Quail Unlimited.

He is survived by his wife, Debra Poynter; a son, Ray W. (Heather) Poynter Jr.; a daughter, Kristina (Sean) Shepherd; his mother, Grace Poynter; brothers Jim Poynter and Tim (Pam) Poynter; sisters Betty (Louie) Ridgway, Carol (David) Winslow and Devonna (Jacob "Bill") Fogle; and grandchildren Noah and Jonathan Poynter and Cassidy and Matthew Shepherd.

He was preceded in death by his father, a brother, John Poynter; and a sister, Arlene Poynter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Sept. 30 at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle. Interment will follow at Clinton Falls Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. on Wednesday until time service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory to the Putnam County Fairgrounds Endowment Fund.
