Custer McCoy Green

Custer McCoy Green, 98, passed away Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015 at Exceptional Living Center in Brazil where he was compassionately cared for throughout the last 10 years.

He was born in Cloverdale on Aug. 17, 1917, one of nine children born to the late Lewis and Emma (McCoy) Green.

Custer was baptized at the Harmony United Methodist Church where he attended in his earlier years.

He served his country during World War II as a member of the U.S. Army's 152nd Engineers Combat Battalion serving in the South Pacific, where he earned three Bronze Stars.

Custer worked for the Allison's Division of General Motors for more than 30 years, and was a member of the UAW Union, VFW Post 1127.

He enjoyed spending time outdoors, woodworking, model airplanes and automobiles.

Mr. Green was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Barbara Pitts Green; son Rodney Green, and eight siblings.

Survivors include a son, Roger L. Green, Southport; a daughter, Vicki (Wrangler) Thomas, Center Point; grandchildren, Sheri (Mike) Yocom, David (Jodi) Green, Adam Thomas and Andrea Thomas; and great-grandchildren Taylor Yocom, Nicolas Yocom, Emily Yocom, Jayden Green and Dayten Green.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 at Harmony Cemetery in Harmony, Ind., with Lee Reberger officiating.
