Peace Lutheran Church to host reformation, Harvest Festival

Thursday, October 22, 2015

The congregation at Peace Lutheran Church and School invites all to join in celebrating 10 years of ministry at the current location at 1421 Bloomington St., as well as the 498th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation and God's good gifts of the harvest.

The festival is set for 4 p.m. until dusk Saturday, Oct. 24. It will feature hayrack rides, a pumpkin patch with pumpkin carving, a pitch-in picnic and other activities.

Founded in 1957 at 411 E. Walnut St., the congregation at Peace Lutheran gathered at its second site at the corner of Anderson and Bloomington streets from 1967 to 2005.

The first worship service at the present location took place on Oct. 23 with Pastor Alan Barber presiding.

Peace Lutheran Church worships in the Lutheran Christian tradition, preaching the biblical gospel at all times with the emphasis Martin Luther placed on being saved by grace alone, through faith alone, on account of Christ alone and according to scriptures alone.

Oct. 31 marks the 498th anniversary of Luther nailing 95 theses, or statements inviting clergy and scholars to debate certain practices in the Roman Catholic Church, to the castle church door in Wittenberg, Germany. This action sparked the Protestant Reformation, one of the most significant events in Western history.
