Nonprofit board members have a responsibility not only to understand, but to make decisions based upon the financial statements of their organization.

The last workshop in the 2015 Nonprofit Learning Series, sponsored by the Putnam County Community Foundation and the Montgomery County Community Foundation, is titled "A Board's Guide to Finances."

The workshop will take place on Nov. 3 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Inn at DePauw in Greencastle.

Lynn Greggs has more than 20 years of accounting experience. She currently serves as accounting and controllership specialist at Simon Bitzer.

In describing the workshop Greggs said, "We will walk through financial statements commonly used by nonprofits, explaining the purpose, elements and relationships of all those numbers."

During the workshop, the role and responsibility of the board, from a financial perspective, and the different relationships a nonprofit board can have with the management team will be discussed.

The Nonprofit Learning Series is designed to enrich and advance nonprofit associations, organizations, churches, and units of government. The cost includes the workshop, a catered lunch and all workshop materials.
