Putnam County Foundation board member Phil Gick presented a check for $100 to the St. Paul's Ladies Guild recently.

Gick explained each Foundation board member is allotted a $100 grant to present to the nonprofit of his choosing. In an effort to highlight all the positive projects churches do in the communities, he chose to donate to the Ladies Guild.

"I think people know what their individual churches do, but I wanted to highlight the impact of churches in the community," Gick explained.

While there are many reasons he chose the group at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Greencastle -- including his own denominational beliefs -- Gick said the church hosted a dinner for his family after the passing of his mother. He noted programs such as this allow families to grieve without the worry of putting together a dinner following a funeral.

"In a small way, I want to say 'thank you' from myself and on behalf of the Foundation," Gick said.

Ladies Guild president Pat Zeronik explained the donation will help with projects like the Christmas House. Currently, the group is gathering new socks, underwear and toys to distribute for Christmas.
