'If I Cancan, You Cancan' talk set Monday by Zayid

Sunday, November 15, 2015

A true survivor is coming to DePauw University to speak on Monday, Nov. 16.

Comedian, writer, actress, tap dancer and disability advocate Maysoon Zayid should have died the day she was born but somehow she survived.

The 41-year-old Zayid is a Palestinian-American actress and comic, known as one of America's first Muslim women comedians and the first person ever to perform standup in Israel and Jordan.

In her talk, "If I Cancan, You Cancan," Zayid uses humor to share her story and advice no one wants to hear about how we can fix our broken world.

DePauw's Janet Prindle Institute for Ethics will present the Delta Gamma Foundation Dorothy Garrett Martin Lecture in Values and Ethics at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Kresge Auditorium of the Green Center for Performing Arts.

The lecture, free and open to all, is co-sponsored by Conflict Studies, the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Hartman House.
