'Paws applause' for Humane Society

Sunday, November 22, 2015

To the Editor:

I stopped in at the Humane Society for their grand opening on Saturday, Oct. 24. I was truly astonished with the changes made to this facility and didn't recognize it from the way it used to be.

Fresh bright paint, new flooring, spaces rearranged for convenience and efficiency, and a loving energy pervaded each and every room. I could feel the caring for the dogs and cats from each staff member and volunteer.

I was particularly impressed with the cat room where there was a bank of new cages where each cat had its own room with a separate hole for them to jump through to access their own litter box away from their playing/sleeping space.

On one of the dog's doors was written: "He likes cheese whiz with his meds."

These are only two of the many examples inside and out showing great sensitivity for animal care prior to adoption.

If you missed this open house, you really missed something special.

Congratulations to Sandy Grimes, the county, the staff and volunteers for a job well done. Your hard work is what has made this shelter successful and special and we are lucky. to have you.

  • Thank you for your kind letter! I am the veterinary assistant there, and I was also amazed at the transformation when I came for my initial interview.
