Red Kettle Campaign to kick off this Friday

Tuesday, November 24, 2015

Bells will be ringing at a pair of local stores beginning with Black Friday shopping and continuing through Christmas Eve.

The Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign kicks off Friday in Greencastle with bell ringers and their requisite red kettles greeting shoppers at the Kroger and Walmart stores.

But those bells don't ring themselves, and Salvation Army Putnam County Service Representative Tanis Monday is looking for volunteers.

Interested individuals or groups may now register to ring online at www.registertoring.com. They can also learn more by calling Monday at Beyond Homeless Inc. at 301-9263.

Monday pointed out that all funds raised in the Red Kettle Campaign remain in Putnam County.

The 2014 campaign raised approximately $4,000, which has been used to help approximately 75 Putnam County residents this year with needs such as assistance for bills, groceries, a hotel room for a night or gasoline vouchers.

"It's money that is used here in our community for folks that have a financial need," Monday said. "The money that we earn ringing comes right back to help those in our community in need."
