Giving Tree sponsorships available at Greencastle Goody's, Kroger

Sunday, November 29, 2015

Black Friday and Small Business Saturday are gone. Cyber Monday is passing quickly.

All of that means that holiday shopping season is in full swing.

While the consumers of Putnam County are filling their own Christmas lists, there is also a chance to help those less fortunate in our community by supporting the Putnam County Giving Tree project.

Although the involvement of local churches takes care of many of the Giving Tree sponsorships each year, sponsorships are also available at local businesses.

That is the case again this year, with trees set up at Goody's (27 Putnam Plaza, Suite C) and Kroger (821 Indianapolis Rd.) with the information of a local child or family in need this holiday season.

Unlike in years past, the Greencastle Walmart does not have a Giving Tree on display.

Since its inception, the Giving Tree program has continued to provide needed clothing items, special-need gifts and other wished-for toys to children and families throughout Putnam County.

In December 2014 the program provided assistance to nearly 800 children by giving three or more gifts to each child to help make Christmas enjoyable with their family.

The county-wide program is an opportunity for organizations and individuals to share goodwill and holiday cheer with others in Putnam County.

Tax-deductible contributions can be made by making a check payable to Putnam County Giving Tree and mailing it no later than Dec. 10 to Putnam County Giving Tree, P.O. Box 413, Greencastle, IN 46135.

In addition to sponsorships being available at Goody's and Kroger, sponsorship information of a child/children/family can be provided by emailing pcgivingtree@gmail.com. The Giving Tree Project interest form will be sent in response. Once the interest form is received back from an individual, a list will be provided so suggested gifts can be purchased and then delivered unwrapped to Giving Tree volunteers no later than Dec. 14.

Anyone who has questions may call 720-1739.
