Christopher Quine Wright

Christopher Quine "Kit" Wright, 79, a retired Connecticut banker who recently moved to Indiana to be near family, died on Sunday, Nov. 22, 2015 at his home in Greencastle. In July, he was diagnosed with a glioblastoma brain tumor.

Born in Akron, Ohio, on May 17, 1936, Kit attended the Fessenden School before heading to Milton Academy, where he met and fell in love with Nancy Greenleaf DuBois, two years his junior. They were married in 1959. Kit attended Trinity College, where he was a member of St. Anthony Hall fraternity.

After graduation, though his grades were not stellar, Kit wanted to attend Columbia Business School. Believing in the power of a direct approach, he walked into the Admissions Office and said he would wait outside until the director could see him. He was accepted.

The couple settled outside Hartford, Conn. They purchased a gray brick house in the woods, a home where they raised two children and shared the rest of their lives together. Every summer, they traveled to North Haven, an island in Maine, where Nancy swam in Penobscot Bay almost every day while Kit sat under a spruce tree and read.

Kit loved lobster, beach roses, and the call of the white-throated sparrow. He also loved gardening, dogs, jazz, well-aged bourbon and usually the Red Sox.

Friends will remember Kit as a man of contradictions: a loner who liked people, a thrifty Yankee who was generous with those he loved. Though from the East Coast, he felt welcome in Indiana, where he was constantly amazed by the kindness of the people he met -- from his neighbors, to cashiers, to the doctors and nurses who oversaw his treatments while battling this aggressive form of cancer. Despite his timidity with new adventures, his last word was "Yes!"

He is survived by his son, Christopher F. Wright; his daughter, Lili Wright; his five grandchildren, Genevieve Wright, Katherine Wright, Alexandra Wright, Madeline Graham and Lincoln Graham. Kit loved his family and championed their achievements.
