HSPC spay/neuter program has served more than 300 animals since May

Tuesday, December 1, 2015

The Humane Society of Putnam County launched a community spay/neuter assistance program in May 2015.

The program allows for county residents to obtain one voucher per family, per calendar year to have two animals spayed or neutered, at no cost to them.

The program has had an overwhelming response so far. As of November, spay/neuter surgeries and rabies vaccinations have been provided to 132 dogs and 208 cats at no cost to county residents.

The surgeries have totaled more than $12,800, provided by the Humane Society from fundraising efforts and generous donations from the community.

The program is unique to Putnam County, as most programs charge an application fee or require that applicants show proof of need for financial assistance. HSPC volunteers believed it was important to create a program without parameters that allowed for inclusion of any county resident wishing to spay or neuter their animal.

Vouchers can be redeemed at SPOT Clinic in Cloverdale. The voucher will also cover the cost of bringing the animal up-to-date on their rabies vaccine, if needed.

Spay/neuter vouchers can be picked up at Rescued Treasures, 1021 Indianapolis Rd. (next to Goodwill), on Fridays and Saturdays between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
