Wednesday, December 2, 2015

MARSHALL -- The South Putnam boys' basketball team pulled out a tough one Tuesday defeating Turkey Run with some clutch foul shooting in a 54-52 opening-season win on the road.

The game was close going into the fourth quarter with the score knotted at 41. The Eagles fell behind twice in the final quarter, both at 46-45 with three minutes to go and at 50-48 with 1:12 to go.

With only 36 seconds left South Putnam was still down 52-50 but Dalton Scott was able to earn a trip to the foul line and the freshman did not flinch, tying the game.

When Scott was called upon again with less than a second and a chance to end the game, he again knocked down the free throws and ended the contest in a 54-52 Eagle victory.

South Putnam's first home game will be Friday against WIC West Division rival South Vermillion after the girls' matchup.
