County Jail

Two people were booked into the Putnam County Jail on Thursday.

* At 7:15 a.m. Fredrick McKinney, 35, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail for failure to appear.

* At 4:30 p.m. Paul Edwin McKinney, 33, Cloverdale, was booked in for bond revocation.

Sheriff's Department

Putnam County sheriff's deputies responded to six recent property damage accidents.

* At 9:25 a.m. on Wednesday, Andrew M. Woods, 48, Greencastle, was northbound on County Road 500 West in a 2008 International dump truck registered to the Putnam County Highway Department.

Woods told Capt. Steve Fenwick he glanced down to place his drink in the cup holder. When he did, his right front wheel went off the road. This pulled the truck into the ditch, where it hit a driveway culvert.

The result was $10,001-$25,000 damage to the truck and culvert. The truck was towed.

* At 5:55 p.m. on Wednesday, Derek J. Knowling, 31, Roachdale, was northbound on U.S. 231 near the fairgrounds in a 2015 Ford F250 registered to LLC Surveying and Map.

Knowling told Deputy Virgil Lanning he was texting and ran off the road, hitting a stop sign and crossing a yard before colliding head on with a large tree.

Knowling tested at .20 percent blood alcohol content on a portable test and then at .275 on a certified test at Putnam County Hospital.

He was booked into the Putnam County Hospital at 8:55 p.m. for operating while intoxicated.

The truck was towed. Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 6:12 p.m. on Wednesday, Samuel B. Sullivan, 19, Terre Haute, was northbound on County Road 375 West approaching County Road 575 South in a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer.

Sullivan told Lanning that due to heavy snowfall, he was unable to see a curve to the left. He ran off the road and hit a ditch, blowing a tire.

The SUV was towed. Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

* At midnight on Thursday, Haven B. Trent, 19, Bainbridge, was northbound on U.S. 231 approaching U.S. 36 in a 2001 Ford Explorer.

She told Lanning that as she crossed a bridge, her vehicle slid on ice and she lost control. The SUV left the road on the right side and rolled down an embankment, coming to rest on its top.

No injuries were reported.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000. Vehicle was towed.

* At 5:31 a.m. on Thursday, Joseph Scott Glenn II, 25, Brazil, was eastbound on U.S. 40 near Putnamville in a 2006 GMC truck when he lost control due to icy conditions.

The truck crossed into the westbound lanes and began to spin, continuing onto the should before making passenger side impact with a guardrail on the north side.

The truck went up and over the guardrail, sending it rolling 30-40 feet down a snow grass- and tree-covered embankment. It came to rest on its tires on top of a dilapidated fence.

A passenger in the vehicle, David A. Guinn, 45, Brazil, suffered an incapacitating head injury. He was transported to St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, by StatFlight.

Glen was alert and suffered a moderate cut above his eye. He had no other complaints of pain and denied medical attention.

The truck was towed. Damage was estimated at $10,001-$25,000.

* At 12:15 a.m. on Friday, Christopher C. Brennan, 18, Greencastle, was westbound on County Road 200 North approaching County Road 200 East in a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon.

Brennan told Lanning he was traveling way too fast approaching the T intersection. Brennan said the brakes locked up and he could not stop in time. The vehicle slide 167 feet before going airborne down an embankment, coming to rest in 2.5 feet of water in a creek.

The vehicle was recovered from the creek and towed.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to five dispatches and one lift assist.

* At 4:42 p.m. on Thursday, GFD responded to and disregarded a fire alarm at 3333 S. 10th St.

* At 5:43 p.m. on Thursday, GFD responded to a one-vehicle accident on Cemetary Rd. south of CR 300 South.

* At 2:27 a.m. on Friday, GFD responded to a fire alarm set off by a pull-station at 208 E. Olive St. The alarm was disregarded before leaving the station.

* At 11:38 a.m. on Friday, GFD returned to 208 E. Olive St. in response to a fire alarm, this time due to cooking.

* At 4:34 p.m. on Friday, GFD returned to 208 E. Olive St. in response to a fire alarm due to cooking.
