MONROVIA--The Monrovia men's basketball team hosted Cloverdale on Saturday night and the Clovers came away victorious in the matchup 70-54.

"In this three-game stretch we have had great ball reversals and sharp cuts," Cloverdale coach Pat Rady said. "We found the open men. Our post guys have stayed after it and they are able to finish. Nick (Winders) is coming into his own, he is a good shooter and he has been taking it to the rim. He is gaining confidence."

Both the Clovers and the Bulldogs started the game off slow and the score at the half was 29-28 in favor of the Clovers.

The game was much like the score as it was very close with Cloverdale scoring 18 points in the paint and the Bulldogs scoring 16. Both teams also were a little careless with the ball as the Clovers committed 12 turnovers and the Bulldogs had eight.

Both teams came out in the second half though looking to score and again it was a back and forth battle that saw Cloverdale take a 46-41 lead into the last quarter.

Junior Cooper Neese and sophomore Jalen Moore became to much to handle for the Bulldogs down the stretch as they pulled away to win. The Clover free throw shooting was very good in the final frame, as it was all night with the Clovers knocking down 15-of-18 from the line.

Moore led all scorers on the night with 27 and Neese was not far behind scoring 24.

Cloverdale dominated the fourth quarter and at one point led by 20 before two late field goals by Monrovia cut the final score to 70-54.

Moore had a great final quarter, scoring eight points and dished out six assists as well.

The Clovers did well all night finding the open man and getting great shots shooting 60 percent from the field and 33 percent from deep. But the Clovers also played great on defense holding Monrovia to 40 percent shooting and eight percent on 3-pointers.

"Monrovia does a great job of screening for Luke Smith," Rady said. "In our morning shoot around we talked about how we wanted to guard and we wanted to make sure we chased over the top of screens. It was a team defensive effort today."

Brenan Hall led the team in rebounds with nine, Neese was second on the team in rebounds with seven and Moore was not far behind with six boards.

Perfect execution on both ends in the fourth quarter, especially at the beginning of the fourth led to a huge lead and a runaway win.

"I thought our kids 'execution on offense and getting stops on the defensive end really helped us," Rady said. "We do a score-hold-score and we scored, held them and scored again to push the lead to nine and that made it a little tighter on them."
