County Jail

Several people have been booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 12:10 p.m. on Friday, Anita Carol Cundiff, 43, Greencastle, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.

At 2:01 p.m. Dana Kristine Rutledge, 27, Terre Haute, was lodged at the jail for failure to appear.

At 9:20 p.m. James David Maher, 32, Indianapolis, was charged with failure to appear and failure to comply.

* At 10:40 p.m. on Sunday, Jacob T. Wright, 25, Greencastle, was booked in for disorderly conduct.

* At 5:40 p.m. Monday, Steven Ray Colindres, 24, Russellville, was arrested for operating while intoxicated and operating while intoxicated with a prior conviction.

City Police

One recent arrest was reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

* At 2:28 a.m. Saturday, Wesley Nathan January, 25, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Matt Huffman.

Taken into custody for criminal trespassing at Moore's Bar on South Indiana Street, January was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

One recent traffic citation was written by city officers.

* At 8:50 p.m. Monday, Lauren Cummings, 17, Plainfield, was cited for speeding by Reserve Officer Cameron Paul.

Stopped on Bloomington Street near its intersection with Martinsville Street, Cummings was ticketed for 46 mph in a 30-mph zone.

Sheriff's Department

Putnam County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to eight recent traffic accidents.

* At 2:49 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 16, a hit-and-run crash occurred at the Cloverdale Truck Stop.

Woody Bogler of Gerald, Mo., told Deputy Anthony Brown he was asleep in his parked Kenworth semi tractor. He awakened when he heard a loud noise and felt the tractor shake.

Bogler said he looked out and saw a flatbed trailer pulling away heading south. He had no further description and the vehicle did not stop.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 10:47 a.m. on Friday, Rickie J. Sloan, 60, Effingham, Ill., was approaching the fuel pumps at the Cloverdale Truck Stop in a 2007 Freightliner CST120 tractor-trailer. He told Lt. Dwight Simmons he tried to maneuver around a 2016 Jayco White Hawk van that was stationary waiting in line at the pumps.

Sloan's semi made contact with the right rear corner of the van, causing minor damage to both vehicles. Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 6:22 p.m. on Friday, Nicole A. Marsh, 32, Coatesville, turned eastbound onto County Road 150 North from County Road 550 East in a 2015 Kia Soul.

She told Deputy Mike Downing that bright lights from a westbound vehicle blinded her. She ran off the south side of the road and into a ditch, hitting a culvert.

Damage was estimated at $10,001-$25,000.

* At 9:21 p.m. on Friday, Richard L. Kennedy, 61, Cloverdale, was westbound on County Road 1000 South near the Masonic Lodge in a 2013 GMC Denali. He told Deputy Downing an eastbound vehicle crossed the center line and struck his vehicle but did not stop.

It was dark and Kennedy had no further description. Downing and Cloverdale Officer Mark Hoppus searched the area but could not find the vehicle.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 10:29 p.m. on Saturday, Marilyn D. Westfall, 43, Brazil, was northbound on Manhattan Road in a 2002 Mazda 626 when a deer entered the lane.

She told Deputy Brown she swerved to miss the deer and left the road, hitting several trees.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000. The vehicle was towed.

* At 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, Kayla M. Rhoads, 27, Jamestown, was northbound on County Road 900 East in a 2014 Ford Explorer when a deer entered the road.

She told Deputy Matt Biggs she swerved to miss the animal. He left the road and collided with an earthen embankment . The momentum carried the vehicle through the embankment and it collided with a culvert.

A minor in the car suffered minor lacerations to the forehead. Rhoads said she would take the child to the hospital in another vehicle on the scene.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 11:50 a.m. on Monday, Debra L. Howard, 53, Martinsville, was eastbound on County Road 600 South in a 2007 Ford Mustang.

Howard told Helmer she applied her brakes to stop at County Road 800 East but her tires slid on the wet pavement. She said she then overcorrected as she attempted to regain control and the car left the north side of the road, crossing the grass shoulder and hitting an embankment.

The car then went airborne over County Road 800 East before exiting the road on the northeast corner of the intersection, where it went down a ditch and hit a utility pole.

Responders from Jefferson Township Fire Department and Operation Life helped Howard out of the vehicle. Operation Life transported her to Hendricks Regional Hospital.

Lt. Donnie Pettit also assisted with the investigation.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 10:14 p.m. on Monday, Kaitlyn M. Wallace, 21, Terre Haute, was northbound on County Road 375 West in a 1999 Ford Explorer when the vehicle lost traction, going into an uncontrollable skid. The vehicle then crossed the center line and hit a ditch on the west side.

Deputy Kyle Gibbons reported that the vehicle then spun 180 degrees and made rear impact with the ditch as well. It then rolled onto its top.

Wallace was transported from the scene with possible back injuries.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to five dispatches and five medical runs.

* At 2:28 p.m. on Friday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 446 Anderson St. The alarm was disregarded after investigation yielded no cause.

* At 7:27 a.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a gas leak 98 N. 10th St. The cause was determined to be due to a bad regulator.

* At 4:14 a.m. on Monday, GFD responded to a garage-structure fire at 16 E. Berry St. The fire was put out before the structure's integrity was compromised.

* At 9:34 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded toa fire alarm at 408 S. Locust St. The alarm was thought to be construction related.

* At 11:16 a.m. on Monday, GFD responded to an odor investigation at 15 W. Franklin St. No cause was ultimately found.
