County Jail

Several people have been booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 10:35 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 23, Stephen Jarod Bridges, 33, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for three counts of theft.

At 11 a.m. Robert Joe Delano, 31, Terre Haute, was arrested for driving with a suspended license.

At 11:20 a.m. Shea Michael Tahtinen, 18, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for bond revocation.

At 11:50 a.m. Stanley Curtis Dennison, 46, Indianapolis, was charged with possession of marijuana.

At 7:20 p.m. William Jarrel Voltzie, 41, Indianapolis, was housed a the jail on a court order for failure to appear and theft.

At 8:35 p.m. James Macey Short, 60, Speedway, was booked in for probation violation, operating while intoxicated with a prior conviction and driving with a suspended license.

At 10:15 p.m. Earl Wayne Wyatt, 53, Coatesville, was arrested for theft.

* At 3 p.m. on Thursday, Coty Allen Collins, 20, Church Hill, Tenn., was lodged at the jail on a warrant for theft.

* At 5:06 a.m. Saturday, Stanley Eugene McKinney, 34, Greencastle, was charged with operating a vehicle as a habitual traffic violator, resisting law enforcement, disorderly conduct disturbing the peace, theft and criminal mischief.

* At 9:10 a.m. Sunday, Mark Allan Miller, 55, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for two counts of criminal trespassing.

* At 10:30 a.m. on Monday, George Seketa, 18, Dover, Ohio, was booked into the jail for two counts of vicarious sexual gratification and sexual misconduct with a minor.

* At 3:45 a.m. Tuesday, James Vincent Wright, 45, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for two counts of illegal possession of a syringe.

City Police

Two recent speeding citations were issued by Greencastle City Police officers.

* At 1:54 p.m. Sunday, Sgt. Eric Vaughan ticketed Cody Heller, 22, Greencastle.

Stopped on State Road 240, Heller was ticketed for 70 mph in a 40-mph zone.

* At 2:35 a.m. Dec. 22, Sgt. Vaughan cited Kaya Glaze, 18, Stilesville.

Stopped on State Road 240, Glaze was ticketed for 60 mph in a 40-mph zone.

Sheriff's Department

* At 3:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 23, Charles R. Harden, 62, Brazil, was eastbound on U.S. 36 in a 2016 Chevrolet Suburban, stopped in traffic waiting on a vehicle to turn onto County Road 600 East. Aiden C. Hall, 19, Indianapolis, was following Harden in a 1999 Chevrolet Malibu.

Heavy rain was falling at the time and Hall told Deputy Matt Biggs he released the accelerator but noticed he was closing the distances with Harden's vehicle quickly. He applied his brakes but could not stop, striking the back of Harden's vehicle.

Hall's car had to be towed. Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 1:04 a.m. on Thursday, Micheal L. Hargis, 65, Greencastle, was westbound on U.S. 36 in a 2006 Chrysler 300C. He told Deputy Kyle Gibbons he tried to overtake someone in the passing lane on the Big Walnut Bridge east of Bainbridge.

The vehicle lost traction and entered the north shoulder. Hargis then overcorrected and went into an uncontrolled skid down an embankment for about 100 yards before making passenger side contact with a concrete tunnel.

The vehicle then went airborne, continuing down the hillside and breaking off the tops of trees while in the air.

The car landed on the embankment, continuing to roll another 25 feet before making rear impact into a tree.

The car came to rest approximately 75 feet from the road, 40 feet below the level of the road.

Damage was estimated at $10,001-$25,000.

Hargis was apparently uninjured, however he did test at .17 blood-alcohol content on both a portable breath test and certified test.

He was booked into the Putnam County Jail at 2:42 a.m. for operating while intoxicated.

* At 7:50 p.m. on Thursday, Kenneth L. Hummer, 54, Clay City, was southbound on County Road 445 West approaching a T intersection at County Road 750 South in a 1998 Ford Ranger.

Hummer told Deputy Biggs he believed he fell asleep and failed to stop at the intersection. The truck traveled through the intersection, striking several trees.

During the investigation, deputies had reason to believe Hummer was under the influence of an intoxicating substance. He submitted to a blood draw, which indicated the presence of narcotics.

Hummer was lodged at the Putnam County Jail at 10:40 p.m. for operating while intoxicated.

The pickup was towed. Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 5:40 a.m. on Friday, Quanita D. Roberts, 30, Noblesville, was eastbound on Interstate 70 in a 2012 Toyota Corolla when she hit a deer.

Capt. Tom Helmer estimated damage at $2,501-$5,000.

*At 9:29 p.m. Friday, Stephen J. Reynolds, 54, Brazil, was westbound in the left lane of U.S. 40 in a 2008 Ford Edge. John J. Lopossa, 47, Coatesville, was northbound on County Road 1000 East crossing U.S. 40 in a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox.

Reynolds told Deputy Gibbons that Lopossa Failed to yield right of way. He said he tried to take evasive action but made front right impact with the right rear of Lopossa's vehicle.

Lopossa said he did not notice Reynolds' vehicle until his wife cried out, but it was too late.

The front right passenger of each vehicle had initial complaints of pain but later declined medical attention.

Both vehicles were towed. Damage was estimated at $25,001-$50,000.

* At 10:52 p.m. on Friday, Michael P. Jordan, 29, Greencastle, was northbound on U.S. 231 near Woodland Heights Road in a 1999 Ford F150 when he hit a deer.

Deputy Mike Downing estimated damage at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 4:20 p.m. on Saturday, Norman D. Brownsher, 71, St. Louis, was eastbound on Interstate 70 in a 2016 Ford Fusion. Capt. Helmer reported that heavy rain at the time was causing water to pool on the road.

The vehicle apparently hydroplaned and crossed the rumbled strips into to the grass median, where it made impact with the cable barrier.

Brownsher pulled off the highway at U.S. 231 but believed the car could continue safely. However, upon returning to the highway he began to hear a bad noise and called the police.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 6:33 p.m. on Saturday, Clair L. Winings, 75, Roachdale, was northbound on U.S. 231 on Waterworks Hill when her 2010 Dodge Caliber veered to the right for no apparent reason.

The vehicle hit the end of a guardrail and slid down the face of the guardrail for about 100 feet before coming to rest in the right lane of traffic.

Deputy Anthony Brown said it appeared the heavy rain had caused the vehicle to hydroplane.

The vehicle was towed. Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 2 p.m. on Sunday, Geoffrey J. Saul, 48, Cloverdale, was southbound on U.S. 231 stopped at U.S. 36 in a 2007 Dodge Ram.

Saul told Capt. Helmer he was accelerating after the signal changed when the rear of the truck "broke loose" and he lost control. The vehicle swerved to the right and Saul steered to the left, but crossed the northbound lane and left the travel portion of the road.

The truck went across the grass shoulder and hit an embankment. After impact, the truck spun back onto the road and stopped in a northbound lane.

The driver and two adult passengers were taken to Hendricks Regional Hospital by Operation Life and member of the Bainbridge Volunteer Fire Department. A minor passenger was not injured.

PMH ambulance service also provided assistance at the scene.

The truck was towed. Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 5:45 p.m. Monday, Skyanne R. White, 22, Greencastle, was southbound on County Road 400 West approximately a half-mile south of County Road 550 South in a 2004 Chevrolet Cobalt when he hit a deer.

Deputy Biggs estimated damage at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 10 p.m. on Monday, Erin K. Eaglin, 37, Greencastle, was northbound on State Road 243 approximately a half-mile south of U.S. 40 in a 2005 Buick Rendezvous.

She told Deputy Biggs she was negotiation a curve when she lost traction and began to spin. The vehicle struck a guardrail face with the passenger front area.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to seven dispatches, 10 lift assists and one medical assist.

* At 3:52 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 6 E. Washington St. The alarm was determined to be caused by rain water leaking into the building alarm system.

* At 2:31 a.m. on Thursday, GFD responded to reports of a tree blocking lanes at the intersection of county roads 100 Easst and 200 South. GFD removed the tree from the roadway.

* At 2:08 p.m. on Saturday, GFD performed a water rescue at the southern end of Crowe's Bridge, located on CR 100 E. One adult and two children were rescued from the floodwaters of Big Walnut Creek.

* At 9:41 a.m. on Monday, GFD received reports of downed power lines on Manhattan Road,. south of Limedale. However, no issues were found.

* At 10:43 a.m. on Monday, GFD performed an odor investigation on County Road 150 West. Though locals claimed to smell gas in the area, no levels of gas were detected and no further action was taken.

* At 6:35 p.m. on Monday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 106 S. Spring St. The Greencastle Police Department advised that the alarm was due to cooking. GFD reset the alarm with no further action taken.

* At 9:34 p.m. on Monday, GFD responded to reports of a gas leak at 800 N. Madison St. A resident reported the smell of gas but GFD was unable to detect a leak. The resident was advised to call dispatch or the station for further issues.
