Police make fast work of Cloverdale business burglary investigation
CLOVERDALE -- Within six hours of a reported Cloverdale business break-in New Year's Day, suspects were in custody and the money stolen recovered, Cloverdale Police Chief Mike Clark reported.
By Saturday morning, local authorities had made arrests, obtained a reported confession and recovered everything supposedly taken in an incident that occurred about 11:30 p.m. Friday.
Cloverdale Police Department Officers Tyler Turner and Mark A. Hoppus, working with assistance of Capt. Charles Inman of the Greencastle City Police, arrested two suspects and booked them into the Putnam County Jail on charges related to a break-in at Pizza, Spuds and Stix in Cloverdale on West Stardust Road.
Restaurant manager Leah Moy told Officer Turner the back window of the restaurant had been pushed in and $1,200 was missing from the cash register and daily deposit bag.
During interviews, Officer Turner linked one of the employees to an incident that had occurred earlier that evening that was under investigation by the Greencastle Police Department.
The suspects, Derrick Thompson and James Williams, are being held at the jail on burglary, theft and several drug-related charges, Chief Clark noted.
Exact charges will be determined by the Putnam County Prosecutor's Office before the suspects appear in court.
"It's great to see two agencies work together toward a successful outcome," Clark said of the swift investigation.
