Live hawks, owls, falcons or eagles to visit Greencastle Jan. 16

Thursday, January 7, 2016

If you have always wanted a close-up view of a large bird of prey, your opportunity may be at hand.

Several live raptors (large birds of prey, including hawks and eagles) will be brought to Greencastle from the Hardy Lake Raptor Center near Scottsburg in southern Indiana on Saturday, Jan. 16 from 2-4 p.m.

Hardy Lake is the only Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) property with a raptor rehabilitation center. The center cares for injured raptors and educates visitors about Indiana's hawks, owls, falcons, eagles and vultures.

The DNR staff chooses which birds to bring, so it is unknown which species will be shown, but they will all be raptors and the program promises to be interesting.

The program will take place at the Greencastle Presbyterian Church (near the Putnam County Playhouse on Round Barn Road). It is free and open to the public.

For more information about the event, persons may call Allen Beals at 317-557-6817.

Further information on the Raptor Center and the programs they offer can be obtained by calling 812-794-2244.
