Daniel J. Baker, 52, of Greencastle, died on Jan. 3, 2016, it has been announced with great sorrow.

Danny was born on July 23, 1963 in Manhattan (New York City).

He graduated from Northern Valley Regional High School in Demarest, N.J. He also earned an associate in arts degree in sociology from Chaminade University of Honolulu.

Danny joined the U.S. Navy after high school in 1982 and retired in 2002 after 20 years of honorable service. He was a first class petty officer with a myriad of jobs. His favorite was working as a technician with the Navy Seals.

During his career he was stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Orlando, Florida and Virginia Beach, Va. After retiring from the Navy, Danny moved to Greencastle to raise his twin sons as a single dad.

Danny's boys were the highlight of his life. He loved to fish, boat, sing karaoke and spend as much time with his boys as he could.

Danny was the son of the late Edward R. and Ann Brophy Baker.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Patrick R. Baker and Paul C. Baker.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Jennifer Baker of Englewood, N.J.; twin sons Jacob Baker and Joseph Baker, of Greencastle; sister Christine Berger of Waterford, Mich.; brother Edward Baker and wife Jeanette of Hopewell Jct., N.Y.; sister-in-law Linda Baker of Coatesville; granddaughter Anastasia Baker of Englewood, N.J.; adoring nieces including Laura Cruz and her husband Steven of Waterford, Mich.; nephews, cousins and a multitude of friends.

A Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 11 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, with Father John Hollowell officiating.

Interment with military honors will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, Jan. 9 and Sunday, Jan. 10 from 2-6 p.m. at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle.

Danny's family acknowledges, with gratitude the outpouring of love and support of the community, especially the Greencastle Christian Church and St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.

The family has asked in lieu of flowers, memorials in Danny's name may be directed to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church for the benefit of Jacob and Joseph.
