Eagle boys take loss to Northview on the road

BRAZIL -- The Northview Knights utilized their height advantage to great success against visiting South Putnam Friday night and the result was first place in the Western Division of the Western Indiana Conference. The Knights jumped on South Putnam early and on pulled away for a 65-29 victory.

Northview turned a pair of early Eagle turnovers into lay-ups and got out to a 17-6 lead on the back of seven quick points by senior Quinton Hayes. Meanwhile, Lumsdon wasn't giving up any room in the post as he piled up five blocks in the first half. The combination of interior size and guard pressure led to a 3-of-27 shooting performance by the Eagles before halftime.

Lumsdon had six points and five rebounds before halftime and the Knights were able to spread the scoring around after taking a 29-11 lead at halftime.

Josh Stewart opened the second half with a 3-pointer for the Eagles and Jordan Parks added a bucket off an offensive rebound and a 3-pointer late in the third period. In between however, it was too much Northview.

Northview led 45-19 after three quarters and began to sub liberally the remainder of the way.

Eagles' freshman Allen Plunkett led the team with 12 points to go with six boards while the Knights got 15 points from Dylan Hyatt and 14 from Jensen Kellett.

Afterward, Weddle noted that he was excited for his team to get a chance to play for the first WIC title that includes a cross-over title game.

The Eagles (1-9 overall) visit Cascade on Tuesday.
