Headley, Parker re-election bids highlight slow week of registrations

Monday, January 18, 2016

The doldrums have arrived in the primary election filing period.

Following several filings in the opening days of the period, only two candidates filed to run for Putnam County office in the last week.

Putnam Circuit Court Judge Matt Headley filed paperwork with the state to seek his third term on the bench.

Likewise, at-large County Councilman Larry Parker will seek another term.

Headley and Parker will appear on the Republican ballot in the May 3 Primary election.

State filings of local interest include Republican State Senator Pete Miller seeking another term in his District 24 seat, as well as John Crane, who will challenge him on the Republican ballot.

Kim Fidler of Greencastle is seeking the Democratic nod for the District 44 state representative seat. Republican incumbent Jim Baird had not filed as of the close of business on Friday.

Previous county-level filings on the Republican ticket included incumbent David Berry for county commissioner District 1; incument Don Walton and challenger Mike Clark for county commissioner District 3; incumbent Lorie Hallett for auditor; and Kathy Minnick for treasurer.

No county candidates have filed on the Democratic side.

Other county-level positions on the ballot include coroner and three at-large county council seats.

Also appearing on the primary ballot are Democrat and Republican state convention delegates and Republican precinct committeemen.

Candidate packets for county-level offices are available at the Putnam County Voter Registration Office on the second floor of the courthouse.

The completed forms must be turned in by noon on Friday, Feb. 5 in order for a candidate to appear on the Tuesday, May 3 Primary Election ballot.

The Voter Registration Office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. The office may be reached at 655-1538.
