Elizabeth Carolyn Dean, 87, of Greencastle, passed away on Monday, Jan. 18, 2016.

She was born on Aug. 17, 1928 in Manila, Philippines, to Orville L. Davis and Anna Lois Overstreet Davis who were both missionaries for the United Methodist Church.

Betty was proud of her early educational years at the Woodstock Boarding School in the Himalaya Mountain Range, and was a 1947 graduate of Greencastle High School.

She was a longtime member of Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church where she taught in the nursery school, and was a Sunday school teacher for 19 years.

Betty was a substitute teacher in the Greencastle school system for 28 years; and had been an active member of Tri Kappa Sorority.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 41 years, Benjamin Henry Dean; and a daughter, Barbara Dean.

Surviving are her children, Carolyn Russ and husband Michael of Greenwood, Stephen Dean and wife Sandy of Greenwood, and Cathy Siebrase and husband Daniel of Greencastle; a sister, Marjorie Brines of Surrey, Mich.; six grandchildren, Staci Stamper and husband Bryce, Megan Lavely, Katherine Russ, Matthew Dean, Michael R. Russ and Mackenzie Dean; and two great-grandsons, Liam Stamper and Finnley Stamper.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23 at Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church with Pastor Bryan Langdoc officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Jan. 22 from 4-8 p.m. at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle.
