Tiger Cubs fall in close match 37-32

The Greencastle wrestling team needed just a few more points to take the win at home against Danville Thursday. But despite some good showings by the Tiger Cubs, GHS lost 37-32 to the Warriors. Austin Huffman, Braden Lady and Kasey Smotherman all earned pins on the night.

"We like the way our young guys are working hard and the way they are starting to put things together on the mat," GHS interim coach Shane Thomas said. "They are putting two and three moves together, back to back. That's what we are needing; just keep building and getting stronger and getting ready for sectionals and conference on Saturday."

Also picking up wins for the Tiger Cubs were Will Bolton who earned a 5-4 win and Ethan Tuggle who scored a 16-0 victory.

Thomas said his wrestlers are using the extra moves to gain an advantage when trying to go for a takedown or trying to gain position.

"You can't just do one move and stop because the guy will normally catch you, Thomas said. "So you put two or three moves back to back and then you can either get them on their back or get away from them somehow."

The Putnam County champs are now looking forward to its Western Indiana Conference Tournament to be held at Edgewood on Saturday.

"You just got to have heart," Thomas said. "The kids have got to give it 110 percent on the mat and leave it all on the mat. They are getting there."
