JENNA JONES was named to the Miami University president's list.

Miami University students who achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average for first semester 2015-16 have been named to the president's list recognizing academic excellence.

Jones, from Greencastle, is earning a Bachelor of Science majoring in Family Studies.

Miami University is a public university located in southwestern Ohio, offering more than 120 degree programs in humanities, science, engineering, business, education and fine arts.


Two local students were recently named to the fall president's list at the Trine University School of Professional Studies.

KATHERINE HORN of Greencastle is a senior studying applied management.

ROBERT PHILLIPS of Greencastle is a senior studying management.

To be named to the president's list, a School of Professional Studies student must take at least 12 credit hours and have at least a 3.75 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Trine University, an internationally recognized, private, co-educational, residential institution, offers associate, baccalaureate and master degrees in programs to students in engineering, mathematics, science, informatics, business, teacher education, communication, criminal justice, golf management, social sciences and various other fields of study.


A South Putnam Middle School student recently won the district competition in BPO Elks Hoop Shoot contest.

MICHAEL TAYLOR, sponsored by Greencastle Elks Lodge 1077, won the 12-13-year-old boys competition held at Noblesville High School on Sunday, Jan. 17.

Taylor now has the honor of traveling to New Castle High School on Feb. 27 to compete against five other district winners in his age group in the state level contest.

The winners from this competition will advance to the Elks Regional Hoop Shoot contest that will be held in Angola on March 19.

The BPO Elks hold local Hoop Shoot contests throughout the nation in November, December and January to determine who advances to the next level of competition. Competitive contests are held at the local, district, state, regional and national levels annually. The National Finals will be held in Chicago on April 16.
