Official investigating possible homicide in Clay County

STAUNTON -- Police spent Sunday afternnon and evening investigating the death of a middle-aged white female at a home in Staunton.

Indiana State Police detectives and crime scene investigators are assisting the Clay County Sheriff's Office with a death investigation at 208 W. Columbus St. in the western Clay County town.

The victim appears to be a middle aged white female found inside the residence. Evidence at the scene suggests foul play.

At 2:57 p.m., the Clay County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call reporting a deceased female in the home. Deputies arrived at the scene and confirmed the information.

Clay County Sheriff Paul Harden then requested assistance from the Indiana State Police.

Investigators from both agencies conducted several interviews.

Police do not believe there is a public safety concern for area residents.

An autopsy is scheduled later this week at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.

Assisting at the scene were the Clay County Prosecutor's Office and Clay County Coroner's Office.
