GMS vocal, piano students fare well at ISSMA contest

Greencastle Middle School vocal and piano students competed in the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) Solo and Ensemble competition Saturday, Jan. 30 at Terre Haute North High School.

The students spent many hours preparing a solo or ensemble piece and performed before a highly qualified judge.

Five different groups are available for a student to enter in from Group V (easier music) to Group I (very difficult). Each solo and ensemble is graded in several different categories including intonation, tone quality, note and rhythm accuracy, interpretation, dynamics and musicianship. Points are awarded and final ratings given from gold to participation.

The GMS results are as follows:

Group V -- Gold Division: Siddalee Cox - piano solo; Siddalee Cox -- vocal solo; Amelia Mathis - vocal solo; Madilynn Clark - vocal solo; Jacie Bumgardner -- vocal solo; and, Anna Zellers, Caroline Sullivan, Olivia Headley, D.J. Wells and Rudy Hagen -- vocal ensemble.

Group V -- Silver Division: Anna Zellers -- vocal solo; Michayla Dinn -- vocal solo; Kaylin Kienzle, Rain Minartz and Zoe Ruble -- vocal ensemble; Lucy Butler, Samantha Funk, Amanda Cady and Mary Croan -- vocal ensemble; and, Makayla Rogers, Hope Roberts, Mia Rios, Faith Cook, Zoe Carter and Grant Pettit -- vocal ensemble.

Group IV -- Gold Division: Zoe Weltz -- piano solo; Ren Bannon -- piano solo; Ben Wilkerson -- vocal solo; Selene Seaman -- vocal solo; Mia Warmoth -- vocal solo; Hannah McCalister -- vocal solo; Paxton Wells, Michael Thede and Josh Nally -- vocal ensemble; and, Emmy Huber, Lauren Hopper, Sydney Doan and Valarie Pham -- vocal ensemble.

Group IV -- Silver Division: Mackenzie Winsemann, Hannah McCalister, Alleesia Paul, Zaira Hendon, Aidan O'Brien, Jeremiah Wood and Nathan Simmons -- vocal ensemble.

Group III -- Silver Division: Connor Crary -- piano solo.

Connor Crary and Ren Bannon are students of Maureen Carkeek. Zoe Weltz and Siddalee Cox are students of Lori Miller.
