Two Greencastle men were arrested Thursday afternoon after reportedly committing one theft and caught in the midst of another.

In a theft case that began at the Greencastle Walmart and ended at the Dollar General store on the city's East Side about 1:45 p.m., the suspects were detained by the Dollar General manager until GPD Officer Ed Wilson and Indiana State Police Troopers Chris Harcourt, John Meyers and DuJuan McFadden arrived.

Arrested on theft charges and transported to the Putnam County Jail were Shalon McKee, 20, Greencastle, and John Clark, 24, Greencastle.

City Police had no report on what the men tried to shoplift at Dollar General.

However, when officers searched the suspects' car, they discovered two bottles of alcohol reportedly stolen by McKee at Walmart.

Officer Wilson's report indicates McKee can be seen on surveillance video sticking bottles of Early Times whiskey and Midnight Moon cherry moonshine inside his coat and down the waistband of his pants.

The alcohol was valued at $33.61.

Authorities also said Clark can be seen on surveillance video taking a pair of And 1 brand basketball shoes, valued at $21.27.

Police said Clark, who was arrested on a Clay County warrant for probation violation, reportedly replaced his boots with the sneakers, putting the boots in the shoebox and restoring it to the shelf.
