Two vehicles were heavily damaged in a head-on crash Sunday afternoon on U.S. 36 between Bainbridge and Groveland.

GROVELAND -- During the Valentine's Day snowstorm Sunday, Floyd Township Fire Department personnel responded to a serious two-vehicle accident on U.S. 36.

With snow falling shortly before 12:30 p.m., fire officials responded Sunday to a head-on two-vehicle collision on U.S. 36, just east of County Road 500 East, midway between Bainbridge and Groveland.

The initial dispatch provided information from multiple callers describing two vehicles, colliding head-on with one inverted and entrapment involved, Floyd Township VFD Chief Brian Ervin reported.

Upon arrival, Floyd Township fire crews found that both drivers were entrapped and had to be extricated from their vehicles.

The driver of the white Toyota passenger car was trapped in his driver's seat due to the steering column and dash being pushed down into his lap on impact. Once extricated, that driver was found to have a large laceration in the area of his right knee.

The driver of the blue Dodge Ram was found to have his head pinned between the door of his truck and the ground.

Both drivers were extricated and placed into Putnam County Operation Life ambulances and transported to the ER for their injuries. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Assisting Floyd Township Fire Department in the incident were personnel from the Bainbridge Fire Department, PMH Ambulance, Putnam County Operation Life, Putnam County Sheriff Department, Indiana State Police, Putnam County 911 Dispatch, and an unnamed Indianapolis Fire Department member who was passing through the area prior to first-responder arrival.
