Probe ongoing in Madison Township shooting

Friday, February 19, 2016

Few details have emerged in a Wednesday night shooting that sent one subject to an Indianapolis hospital and left another family member in the custody of a Terre Haute mental health facility.

Putnam County Sheriff's Department detectives were dispatched to the 8000 block of County Road 300 South shortly after 11:30 p.m. to investigate a shooting.

Reports indicate the incident began as a domestic dispute involving three family members at the Madison Township residence.

While few clear details are available, one of the family members was shot, while another fled the scene after the shooting.

This individual was located in a shed about an hour later.

As of Thursday morning, the victim remained at Methodist Hospital.

A second subject was ordered by Putnam Circuit Court Judge Matt Headley to be taken to the Hamilton Center in Terre Haute for evaluation.

The third individual was neither in custody nor the hospital.

The Putnam County Prosecutor's Office and Indiana State Police are also taking part in the investigation.

"I'm glad the Indiana State Police had their crime scene tech unit out there," Sheriff Scott Stockton said. "It's nice to have those resources."

The investigation was ongoing as of late Thursday afternoon, as investigators still try to pinpoint exactly what happened.

When more details emerge, they will be printed in an upcoming edition of the Banner Graphic.
