County Jail

Five people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 11:42 a.m. on Monday, Loren Michael McGuire, 24, Roachdale, was lodged at the jail for operating while intoxicated.

At 12:05 p.m. David Stanley Sims, 61, Cloverdale, was arrested by court order for operating while intoxicated.

* At 11:18 a.m. on Tuesday, Colin Allen Brown, 23, West Lafayette, was charged with resisting law enforcement and public intoxication.

At 3:15 p.m. Chris Edward McCormick, 29, Indianapolis, was housed at the jail for probation violation and operating while intoxicated.

At 8:32 p.m. Steven Ray Burnett II, 30, Rockville, was booked in for theft.

Sheriff's Department

Putnam County Sheriff's department personnel responded to one recent property-damage accident.

* At 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Kenneth W. Scruggs, 57, Fillmore, was northbound on County Road 500 East near County Road 300 South in a 2016 Ford Fusion when he hit a deer.

Reserve Deputy Ken Rozelle estimated damage at $2,501-$5,000.

City Police

Greencastle City Police officers investigated a pair of recent traffic accidents.

* At 3:42 p.m. Tuesday, a two-vehicle mishap was reported at Bloomington Street and Keightly Road during a heavy traffic back-up on Bloomington Street.

James Carpenter, 51, Greencastle, was stopped behind a truck on Kieghtly Road, waiting to pull out onto Bloomington Street, when after several minutes, he decided to back up and go another direction, Capt. Chris Jones reported.

However, he reportedly backed his 1996 Ford Mustang into a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt, driven by Amy Barger, 29, Greencastle, who had pulled up behind the Carpenter car.

Capt. Jones listed total damage at $1,000-$2,500.

* At 10:56 a.m. Tuesday, a three-vehicle accident was reported on Percy Julian Drive near Indianapolis Road.

With the vehicles all stopped northbound at the traffic signal, Craig Jordan, 25, Greencastle, started forward in a 2014 Ford Fusion, police said, but a vehicle in front of him, a 2012 Dodge Caravan driven by Jeffrey Flint, 56, Greencastle, was not moving as fast as the Jordan car and a collision occurred.

Impact pushed the Flint-driven vehicle into the rear of a third northbound vehicle, a 2003 Dodge Caravan driven by Amber McCombs, 27, Greencastle.

McCombs and a juvenile passenger complained of back pain but declined transportation by ambulance to the hospital.

Total damage was estimated at $1,000-$2,500.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to three dispatches.

* At 2:12 a.m. on Wednesday, GFD responded to an extinguished a small transformer fire at 626 E. Seminary St. GFD cleared the scene at 2:27 a.m.

* At 2:24 a.m. on Wednesday, GFD performed an odor investigation at 80 Kingswood Ct. No carbon monoxide was detected and GFD returned to station at 2:44 a.m.

* At 4:32 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of State Road 240 and Calbert Way in frotn of Walmart. GFD assisted in the cleanup of fluid and debris, clearing the scene at 5:24 p.m.
